Dear Hepzibah, the book of Genesis states, it took God 7 days to create the world (I do not know how long each day was not known during creation). What I struggle to fathom is what kind of place he is preparing for us during the past 2000 years since he made this promise to prepare a place for us! Our eternity will not be enough to express our gratitude to God for his love and mercy for us. Further, this momentous expectation makes all our suffering amidst the pandemic trivial. Yes, it is not too helpful being too worried about the future, what is going on in the world (particularly in the mid-east). However, I am deeply pained by the attitude of the majority of the modern day Jews towards the soon coming Messiah. Our deep comfort is that God is in perfect control. What we can do at present is to be ‘salt and light’ to prevent the decay. Further, there is also an excitement that we cannot hide with so many significant events in nations around the world which seem to suggest that they are barreling toward the grand finale!

    A.
    1. It gives me a great sense of hope and relief. All the sufferings we face in our day to day life are going
to be insignificant in the light of what we are going to experience when we get to the fathers house in
    eternity.
    2. A sense of concern for the perishing multitudes. Many of my wives family belonging to the Chettiar
community in India and elsewhere are Hindus and are strangers to the love of God.
    3. A great sense of triumph: God’s victory over the evil. A world dominated by righteousness and goodness,
    devoid of injustice and war.
    4. Seeing the world return to be like Eden with no more curses of the present world. Being close to nature
with all its creatures is going to be beautiful and refreshing.
    5. The immense joy of being co-heirs, ruling wiht him.

    B.
I have a mixed sense of excitement. One one hand living in end times is going to be very challenging with
all its decadency and going to our fathers house is very exciting and welcome relief. On the other hand I
dread the thought of those who are near and dear who may end up with a Christ less eternity.

Dear Suresh, I am delighted to hear that the coming of Jesus has been fulfilled in your life. Like most of us it is going to be life of discovery following the foot steps of Jesus. Each of us have our own path to God and we can rejoice at the wonderous way he works in our lives to bring us home to him. As a fourth generation Christian hailing from Idayangudi in Tirunelveli district, I am delighted to see how God is working through the lives of many Christians in India to bring salvation to their communities.

I come from a home where my parents shared the gospel from our early age. Further, our home was a house church in the central hills of Sri Lanka where there was very few churches in the area. The only Anglican church nearby was in the town and poor transportation in Tea Estates made it difficult to get to Chruches on time. The theme of second coming was often shared in our home and church life. Soon, I left home and went to the boarding school run by the CMS missions where again I was exposed to Christian teachers though many of my school mates were non-Christians. I left school and started my auditing career in the city of Colombo. Soon, I faced an immense problem: corruption in the public and corporate sector. This issue brought me to the point that the problem of corruption can be only brought by the inward transformation of a person by Jesus Christ which had taken place in my life a few years earlier. This drove me to delve into the Bible deeper by being a good student of the Bible. After eight years in the field of auditing, I moved to serve in the local church which also enabled me to study God’s word deeper under a good Pastor teacher.

My desire is first to get a right understanding of the passages which deal with the second coming. In order to do that I want to apply the right principles of exegesis for the passages we are going to look at. Then I may use it to teach others in my vocational life. Personally, I was looking forward for a programme like this to delve into the topic and this will be a wonderful forum to study, discuss the various issues that is bound to come up. The course will also help me to appreciate other view points in this topic.
